We are incredibly heartened by how much support we have received by local businesses throughout Maryland. We want to thank each and every one of them for their contributions and we encourage everyone to please support them as much as they have been supporting us! Here are the small businesses that have donated for the event and some information about each one:
Dublin Roasters Coffee
1780 N. Market St, Frederick, MD
Donation: Venue for the event (not a silent auction item) and Coffee products
Serina Braley Roy is founder and owner of Dublin Roasters Coffee. She has been roasting coffee for more than fifteen years. She has dedicated her life to the art of roasting coffee. She believes in keeping her coffee fresh, and only roasting coffee beans in small batches in order to ensure their freshness. She has even taken trips to Latin America to visit the farms in which her beans are derived. Serina prides herself on her coffee being artisan, specialty, organic, and fair trade.
Serina also believes in reaching out to the community. She has found many other local and small businesses to work with her; working towards similar goals and mutual success. Serina is so well known in the Frederick community that we joke that she is the honorary “Governor of Frederick.”
Dublin Roasters Café not only sells coffee, but provides fresh baked goods. They have local artists displaying their talents all over the café and store. Even the floor is a unique piece of art created by a local artist! On any given day Dublin Roasters provides space for book clubs, moms groups, stitch and bitches, telecommuting folks utilizing the Wi-Fi, people interviewing for jobs, real estate deals, green home developers planning neighborhoods, old friends, new friends! Serina also offers three meeting rooms that can be reserved for a number of different purposes.
We are so pleased that Serina has donated her space for us to use and for all of her support in our adoption journey!
Third Eye Comics
209 Chinquapin Round Rd, Annapolis, MD
Donation: Comic Tee-Shirt, Comic Books, Hardcover Graphic Novel, Heroclix Teleporter Game Component, Tote Bag
Third Eye Comics is Maryland’s premiere store for comics, graphic novels, toys, and games. Ryan and Matt came across it one day back in 2015 and have been visiting ever since. Their staff is one of the most friendly and knowledgeable that we have ever come across. In a Hail Mary throw for support, Ryan contacted owners Steve and Trish Anderson, and without batting an eye, and despite never having partnered for fundraising events in the past, they immediately stated that they would love to help. You see, Steve and Trish and all of the staff at Third Eye make it a point to build personal relationships with customers. They know our likes and dislikes and have guided towards many new comic book experiences that we have come to love and enjoy. So, they knew exactly who we were and love to demonstrate their commitment to the community and to their customers. To us, Third Eye Comics is not just a store, but a group of friends that we enjoy stopping in and visiting.
We are not the only ones who have noticed their high quality customer service, but so has Travel and Leisure Magazine. This year, the magazine wrote an article on the top comic book stores in the US to visit, and unsurprisingly they voted Third Eye Comics as number one.
We are honored that they would love to help us out through their donations to our silent auction for this event, and their commitment to working with us on creating more fundraising opportunities. Whether you are a comic book lover or not, their store is definitely worth a visit, if for no other reason than to see how customer service should look!

Donation: Half a Dozen Jams and Jellies
Martha has been making jams and jellies for friends and family since the 1980’s. In 2007 she decided to begin selling her jams at farmers markets and special events in the region. She creates over 50 varieties in traditional and tropical flavors. You can catch her selling her amazing jams and jellies at the Cheverly Farmer’s Market every Saturday from 8:00 AM – Noon and also at the Greenbelt Farmers Market every second and forth Sunday of the month. Martha also ships her jellies and jams with an additional shipping fee.
We met Martha through a coworker of Ryan’s, Barbara. Barbara is Martha’s daughter. Barbara and her family has shown us support through the years. Barbara’s sister Brennie has watched our house and dogs, her sister Sarah and her husband Matt has entertained us with board games, and Martha has not only donated jellies and jams to this silent auction, but has also had us over for summer cookouts in the past.
We are honored that Martha would be willing to donate her time and talents to suppot us in building our family.
Donation: Handcrafted Pottery (mug and Bowl)
Juliana Molina was born and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In 2011, she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fine Art Photography from The Academy of Art University in San Francisco. Juliana has been crafting functional pottery for over seven years.
She is also one of Martha’s daughters and my friend Barbara’s sister and has a long history of giving back to the community. She, like Barbara and Brennie (another sister), has been primarily working in the non-profit sector to support those in need.
A special note about her donation: Juliana has only ever sold commissioned pieces. This is the first time that she is allowing a piece of artwork to be sold that was not made with the idea of actually letting the piece go. As an artist, I know this can be very difficult!
We are so honored that she would give of herself and her work in this way.
Thanks so much Juliana!
Walks and Wags with Love
Donation: One Free 30 Minute Dog Walk, Vegan Chili and Bread for the event
Nicole is a 2 year resident of Frederick. One of the reasons she loves Frederick as much as she does is the dog-friendliness of the town. Nicole is a dog lover who also has a passion for exploring the town, making her the perfect dog walker. This is why she is now the proud owner of Walks and Wags with Love, which has now been in business for over a year.
She currently provides drop-in visits where she will stop by your residence, feed and walk your dog. She also provides services for providing your pup with a thirty minute walk or a drop-in visit and walk without the feeding.
Additionally, she has been working on becoming a yoga instructor at Namaste Studios. So if you don’t have a pup of your own, but want to stop by and say “hi,” you can catch her hanging out at the studio showing others how to perfect their downward dog.
Nicole is also Ryan’s cousin and was in our wedding. She has been supportive of us not only in building our family, but also supportive of our relationship as well.
Shane and Tyler Simpson
Donation: Abstract Painting
“We acquired this piece from a local artist some time back. I believe that the art speaks to you, especially since it is abstract. You interpret the entire piece differently than another. This one in particular now has an opportunity to speak as loudly to someone new as it once did to me. If this speaks to you, your adoption of this piece will help grow this beautiful family from a dream, to a dream no longer.” – Shane and Tyler Simpson
Shane and Tyler Simpson are clients of Walks and Wags with Love (WWL). After my cousin Nicole, owner of WWL told them about our efforts to build our family, they immediately wanted to assist. This is particularly amazing as Matt and I have never met this giving couple!
